In your GrillBackJun 18, 2008Ten Final Thoughts of the 2008 NBA Season
(ONE)
The NBA could not have handled the Tim Donaghy situation any worse. David Stern is blowing it off and now “mysteriously” clips from the infamous Kings & Lakers ‘02 Game Six Playoff game has been pulled from YouTube. The NBA has nothing to hide? Really???? (TWO) While he is still the best player in the NBA; I think it is clear that Kobe’s stock has dropped. If you are truly the MVP you don’t let a 24 point lead slip at home in the finals and you don’t quit in an elimination game. I don’t think any Celtic fans was scared of Bryant from the 2nd quarter on. (THREE) Kevin Garnett now can start making a claim for a top 10-15 spot of all time. Paul Pierce can now join the ranks of the all-time Boston great athletes. (FOUR) It’s interesting how fortunes can change. In the latest Sports Illustrated there is an article looking at the Pierce and Kobe dynamic. The story talks about how both men were playing together in the summer and both were talking about wanting to be moved from their respective teams. (FIVE) Look for TJ Ford to go to the Clippers and Corey Maggette to be sent to Toronto. It makes a ton of sense for both teams. (SIX) Look for Denver and Detroit to make a major trade. I see Carmelo Anthony and parts going to Detroit for Chauncey Billiups, Rasheed Wallace and at least one more significant piece. Rodney Stucky will be a star in this league. (SEVEN) If I’m a Houston Rockets fan I wouldn’t be that happy watching Yao Ming do everything in his power to player in the Olympics. (EIGHT) I hate it when players get bad advice from their agents. Emeka Okafor are you listening? You should take the $12 million you were offered by the Bobcats. No other team has shown an interest in you. Throw in the fact that your offensive game is marginally better than Ben Wallace and you’re injury prone … well I think you get the idea. (NINE) Speaking of Charlotte … At what point can we start having serious discussions about the fact that Michael Jordan is one of the lousiest executives in the NBA? (TEN) I don’t miss Isiah Thomas one bit. Here’s hoping the networks don’t give that weasel an announcing gig. Of course if Bob Knight could work for ESPN I guess then anything is possible.
