If there ever was a way to test if Toronto is a legitimate NFL market or not, this is it.
Today, the NFL announced that the Bills' "home" date at the Rogers Centre would be an all-important late-season battle between Buffalo and... the Miami Dolphins.
That's right. The Dolphins. Owners of one win last season.
Basically, if Torontonians shell out to watch what promises to be one of the most wretched match-ups the NFL has on its 2008 schedule, that's got to be a sign that the league can work here, right?
Maybe, down the road, the NFL will give Toronto a carrot of a game, but right now this city will have to settle for a dog. But, at least all those Buffalo fans who are pissed about losing a home game to evil Toronto can breathe sighs of relief. Toronto got the game that Buffalo wouldn't want.
This comes a couple of weeks after the MLS announced that West Ham United would be the visiting team at this year's All-Star Game to be held at BMO Field. Of course, this was after rumours flew about Liverpool or Werder Bremen possibly coming to town.
Talk about come-downs.
What's next? A PGA tournament that none of the top pros want to attend? Whoops, we already have that, too...
