All that Jazz

The one team people aren’t talking about enough are the Utah Jazz. They are 18-3 over their past 21 games.

Read that sentence again!

They beat a hot Trailblazers team, blew out both Phoenix and the Western Conference leading New Orleans Hornets by 22 points, Orlando, San Antonio and Denver during this run.

Utah is built for the playoffs. They have the point guard and big man in Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer respectively that you need to get through a seven game series. They got the defensive stopper in Andrei Kirilenko and a more than serviceable centre in Mehmet Okur.

Then there is Kyle Korver. Over looked in all the mega deals that have happened or will happen is the deal that sent Korver to the Utah Jazz. The team needed a pure jump shooter to help spread the floor and oh by the way the team started its crazy hot steak after they acquired Korver.

On New Years Eve the Jazz were 16-16 when Korver joined the team. The Jazz are now 34-19. I’m not saying he is the main reason but he has more than played his part in leading this resurgence.

Finally they have Jerry Sloan, one of the most underrated coaches in sports on the bench. A lot of people thought he was done about five years ago but instead he has created the Utah Jazz 2.0 with Boozer and Williams playing the roles of Karl Malone and John Stockton.

No one is talking about them because they just aren’t that a sexy team. They don't give great sound bite, they aren’t exactly in a major market and none of their stars are very marketable (Deron Williams will be in two years).

Just remember the Utah Jazz are first in their conference and more importantly they have the second best point differential in the Western Conference at 6.0 points per game.

Don’t be surprised if it is the Jazz and not the Lakers or Suns going to the finals.
